THURSDAY: Arrive at your hub airport, in New York, LA or Miami, and board
the aircraft on your own. Include some sleep in your flight plan. You're on
your way to Buenos Aires. Don't forget your passport...!
FRIDAY: We meet you at Ezeiza Airport in Buenos Aires, and check you in at
the hotel. Take a nap, photograph the beautiful vintage architecture, or
watch the locals go by... Buy tango shoes... Meet everyone at our evening
orientation session. We'll have some performances, so bring your cameras.
Then, off to our first 'milonga' in the nightworld of Buenos Aires... As
always, you'll be escorted by our staff instructors.
SATURDAY: Our classes are in some of the most picturesque salons in the
city, such as the Confiteria Ideal, featured in 'The Tango Lesson' and
'Evita.' Class periods consist of staff-supervised practice sessions,
classes with the master teachers of the tango, and intimate interview
sessions, where our teachers share with us their lives in the tango, their
joys and heartbreaks, of many years. A break for dinner and an evening bus
to join our staff on the dance floor...
SUNDAY: Buenos Aires lives day and night. 'Porteños' eat at 10 p.m., and
"rush hour" at the milongas is 2 a.m. Our schedule lets you fully enjoy this
fascinating side of Buenos Aires - class sessions begin in the early
afternoon. This morning is free for a visit to the historic San Telmo Street
Fair. Then an afternoon practice, class and interview, dinner break, and a
bus to an early evening milonga.
MONDAY: Sleep in, or take an optional bus tour of Buenos Aires, often
described as the "Paris of the South". This afternoon is one of the
highlights of our trip: a private dance party at La Cúpula, a spectacular
turn-of-the-century penthouse. Dance to a live tango orchestra on the
beautiful rooftop terrace, see special performances, and meet more of our
tango friends. A free evening, and our Service Guide and staff will give
you lots of ideas on how to spend it...
TUESDAY: Sleep, shop, sightsee or just relax over a cup of the irresistable
hot chocolate at the historic Cafe Tortoni. Class, interview and practice
in the afternoon. Around 10pm, we take you to the best of the local tango
shows.
WEDNESDAY : Another chance to explore the city's historic sites, such as
Recoleta Cemetery, the resting place of Argentina's rich and famous,
including Evita Peron-- a microcosm of the city and its beautiful
architecture. Practice, class and interview in the afternoon. A dinner
break, and another night spent on the dance floor at one of the best and
most authentic milongas.
THURSDAY: Another free morning. Rest a bit. Practice, class, and interview
in the afternoon. Get some assistance from our talented and helpful staff
instructors. More stories of the tango life told by the people who have
lived them. This evening we usually go to Buenos Aires' hottest milonga of
recent years, Niño Bien...
FRIDAY: We join our dance captains, Zoraida and Diego, at their famous
Friday afternoon milonga at Confiteria Ideal. There are several 'daytime'
milongas in the city, delightful and fascinating encounters with tango past
and present. Your evening is free. Our staff and Service Guide will suggest
plenty of options for you to enjoy it...
SATURDAY: A last pair of shoes, a few souvenirs for friends at home, or
wander off the beaten track through one of Buenos Aires' historic
neighborhoods. Our last class, and our farewell milonga at Sunderland Club.
A wonderful evening, full of dancing and performance, in the company of
our teachers, staff and friends...
SUNDAY: Your flight leaves Argentina in the late afternoon or evening. A
last chance to visit your favorite spots. San Telmo's street fair runs all
day, as does La Boca. Shop, or just watch the street performers... Take a
last private lesson... We take you to the airport. You arrive back in the
U.S. on Monday morning.
